Should factory farming be banned? Should the government step in and increase regulation of factory farming? Is The Meatrix a fair depiction of what happens in our meat industry?
Factory farming is not an acceptable agricultural practice for it causes serious pollution problems, has no morality on animal treatment, threaten traditional farming industry, exploit its workers and this is not just. the wealth of these businesses comes from pollution of the environment, inhumane treatment of animals and exploitation of its workers. This is not morally right for these companies. By consuming food from factory farms, we are consuming the cruelty behind the production.
Governments therefore must step in to offer legislation as this will be a powerful tool that will allow legislation to create limits upon conditions for; and the frame work of behavior of citizens or factory farming business operating within its jurisdiction. This should be done to protect health and safety by making it illegal to treat animals cruelly, make misleading claim about product production (farm workers exploitation) and to create fairness especially in the market where small farmers have been edged out.
The meatrix is an award winning short animation film on factory farming and industrial agricultural practices. Leo a young pig in a rural family farm is approached by Moopheus a trench coat clad cow with a passion for green pastures who goes on to tell Leo how that rural farm that he cherishes is an illusion as he really is trapped in a horrific farm. They two work out a plan to break out of the Meatrix and help others to do the same as they expose the problems with factory farming while making the world safer for sustainable family farms.
