The Future of Healthcare Informatics
With the advancements in technology, the healthcare sector has also been
revolutionized significantly. The integration of informatics technology into healthcare has
brought about significant improvements in the healthcare providers’ ability to provide
efficient care to patients. In the healthcare sector, informatics has transformed the methods of
administering organizations in addition to improving the means of managing patient data.
Patient data from various sources is gathered and combined to form a systematic health
record that clinicians can access to evaluate the patients’ condition. Healthcare workers are
now able to share and access data from other organizations with patient’s consent.
Informatics has also increased the emphasis on the accuracy of patient data to avoid the risk
of human error and improved communication of healthcare workers among the staff as well
as with patients. Advancements in healthcare informatics have also introduced technologies
like telehealth for the distant catering of patients’ needs.
Current and Future Role of the Nursing Informatics
Nursing informatics is an interdisciplinary branch of informatics that utilizes
statistics, information technology, and decision science to aid clinicians in their clinical
decision-making process and to improve the quality of patient care, and in the management of
medical data and health records in an organization (Hebda et al., 2019). Nursing informatics
primarily depends on the incorporation of computer science into healthcare to improve the
extent of nursing knowledge and improve stability in current practice.
At present, informatics nurse is providing various services to the healthcare sector.
Informatics nurse employs digital systems to reduce the risk of human errors in caring for the
patients. The patient’s medical and demographic history is made part of the digital health
record and assists in prescribing treatment that corresponds to the patient’s state of health and
helps avoid triggering potential allergies through medication. This translates to increased
