in one year (Infometrics Ltd., 2000). The following cases depict instances that are included in
the year’s GDP: The income of a dentist. It’s included in the GDP because one has to pay for
a final service. The removal of teeth is not for free; rent received on a two-bedroom
apartment is a GDP because there is payment for the final service of housing by the tenant.
The publication of a college textbook is a GDP. It is a newly produced good for final
consumption. The purchase of an AT&T corporate bond is a GDP. A non-investment
transaction, it is merely the transfer of ownership of financial assets. If AT&T uses the
money from the sale of a new bond to carry out an investment in real physical assets that will
be counted. A $2 billion increase in business inventories is also a GDP because there is an
increase in inventories that could have been a result of increased production.
