Description
Attraction in Interpersonal Relationships |
Prepare: As you prepare to write this discussion post, take a few moments to do the following:
- Read the writing prompt below in its entirety. Notice that there are two tasks:
- Identify what attracts you to others, based on one of the attraction theories covered by Bevan & Sole.
- Share an example of friendship you had that did not start off on solid ground, and explain what happened.
- Review Chapter 7 in the course text. Focus especially on the section on attraction theory and identify what attracts you to others.
- Begin with a solid explanation of attraction theory as described in our text. Then, use that theory to think through what attracts you to others. Do not forget to share an example from your own experience.
- Review the grading rubric.
Reflect: Take time to reflect on how we are attracted to others and what role communication plays in this process. Think about the role of first impressions and how they influence final friendship outcomes.
Write: Based on attraction theory (outlined in our text), address the following:
- What do you look for in other people when you first meet them? This could be a potential romantic partner or even a platonic friend. List as many qualities as you can think of and how they are related to what you’ve learned in this class about communication.
- Relate your personal experience to attraction theory (Section 7.3), as described in our text.
- Share an example of a time when you developed a friendship/relationship with someone whom you did not get along with at first. What initially attracted you to the person? What changed for you?
Thoroughly address all three elements of this prompt by writing at least two to three sentences on each element. Use the course readings at least once to help you make your points. Consider copying and pasting these tasks into a word file and addressing each of them separately.
Your initial response should be 200-300 words in length and is due by Thursday, Day 3.

unit 4 420 IP
A suicide bomber has detonated his incendiary device on the Pink Line of the "El" in Chicago, IL. The emergency response teams have quickly extinguished the fire and have begun to treat the wounded. The explosion took place at 5 p.m. on a busy Thursday afternoon. The initial estimates are that 14 people have been killed and 67 wounded. There is also significant infrastructure damage to the Ashland station, impeding traffic on the Green and Pink lines as well as to and from the Illinois Medical District. Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group from Somalia, has claimed responsibility in response to the U.S. Navy's killing of Somali pirates. Al-Shabaab warns that 2 more explosions will occur somewhere in other major U.S. cities. Their rationale is that three pirates were killed, and therefore three explosions will occur. As can be expected, the public across the U.S. is in a panic. You are the public relations director for the Deputy Director of Homeland Security. He has asked you to develop a comprehensive white paper explaining the intervention options that the state and federal government can exercise to alleviate public fear and anxiety. He wants to make sure that you anticipate economic impacts at the local, state, and federal levels; use historical incidents if necessary. Your paper will be the basis for an upcoming DHS press conference in which the Deputy Director will attempt to assuage the public’s fear.Assignment GuidelinesAddress the following in 1,250–1,500 words:Provide a brief summary of the event. What psychological impacts will most likely be presentat the local level? Explainat the national level? Explain. What could be the social impacts? Explain.Consider that the attack has significantly affected a major form of public transit for a major city. What could be the economic impacts? Explain.Consider consumer confidence and impacts to businesses. How would the government respond to the attack? Explain. How would the government address the psychological, social, and economic impacts? Explain.Consider immediate, short-term, and long-term impacts.Remember to fully support your arguments with scholarly resources.Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

Capella University Long Term and Short Term Plans Report
Develop a long-term and a short-term plan for yourself using what you have learned about yourself through the SWOT analysis and environmental scan you completed.
Note: Developing a strategic plan requires specific steps that need to be executed in a sequence. The assessments in this course are presented in order and should be completed in sequence.Success in any endeavor requires focus, long-term planning, and effort. Most long-term objectives require short-term achievements.Use what you have learned about yourself through the SWOT analysis and environmental scan you completed to develop a long-term and a short-term plan for yourself. Complete the following:Start by describing your 5-year professional and financial objectives.
What title or position would you like to have?
Where would you like to be financially?
Based on the results of your SWOT analysis and environmental scan, determine the following:
What skills do you need to develop to achieve your 5-year objectives?
Is your industry changing? What do you need to do to grow with it?
What resources do you have to help you achieve your 5-year objectives? (Hint: Resources can mean more than financial; are there people you know who can help you achieve your objective?)
Now develop a short-term plan that will help you achieve your long-term objectives:
What will you need to accomplish each year to achieve your 5-year objectives?
What monthly/weekly/daily steps will help you reach your long-term objectives?
How will you address obstacles that occur along the way?

BMGT 496 UMUC Business Obligation & Corporation Responsibilites Memorandum
How to Set Up the Paper Create a Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) document that is double-spaced, 12-point font. The format should be in memo form. The final product will be between 8-10 pages in length excluding the title page and reference page. Write clearly and concisely. Instructions: You serve as the assistant to the very recently appointed CEO of a prominent start-up that is beginning to grow rapidly. The new CEO, Tara Richmond, is a former general who gained visibility in the military for her outstanding leadership qualities. Since her arrival, the Board of Directors has had spirited debates on several proposals that would increase corporate profits but would work to the disadvantage of some members of the public as well as other stakeholders. Some members of the board are arguing that the only obligation the company has is to make profits for the stockholders. Other members of the board are arguing that the company has an obligation to the community and to stakeholders other than just the stockholders. Your boss is baffled by the debate. “When I was in the military, my duties to others were clearly laid out. Here, I am unsure to whom the company owes a duty.” She turns to you for advice, requesting that you draft a memo that explains what the company’s ethical obligations are in situations like these. She asks you to start with Milton Friedman's opinion piece in 1970, arguing that a company’s only ethical responsibility is to make profits. That can be found at http://ezproxy.umgc.edu/login?url=https://www-proquest-com.ezproxy.umgc.edu/newspapers/social-responsibility-business-is-increase/docview/2441921739/se-2?accountid=14580. She also asks you to review a much more recent memo from the Business Roundtable that takes a more expansive view of the responsibilities of a company. The Business Roundtable consists of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, many of whom are familiar names to her. That memo can be found at https://system.businessroundtable.org/app/uploads/sites/5/2021/02/BRT-Statement-on-the-Purpose-of-a-Corporation-Feburary-2021-compressed.pdf. You should do additional research on arguments for and against Friedman’s proposition. Using your classroom materials as well as external sources, respond to the following prompts: Explain Milton Friedman’s arguments supporting that a company’s only obligation is to make money.Explain the arguments contrary to Friedman’s position including where the Business Roundtable stands as well as other arguments you find in your research.Using one of the ethical issues that you posted in classroom discussions, illustrate for the CEO, how that issue would be resolved using Friedman’s perspective and how it would be resolved using the perspective of the Business Roundtable.Which of these positions do you find most compelling and why? Your memo should begin with an introduction and end with a conclusion where you make recommendations to the CEO.

Challenges of Court System Administration
The objective of this assignment is to enable you to demonstrate your understanding of problems and opportunities related to court security. Providing for appropriate security is a challenge faced by court administrators in an age of heightened concern about possible terrorism or other forms of violent outbreaks associated with court processes. Given the changes in court workloads as well as the growth in alternative mechanisms for resolving disputes (e.g., pre-trial meetings, out-of-court settlement conferences, informal settlements, or legal strategy conversations and mediations), judicial proceedings have spilled beyond the walls of the courtroom. Here is a case in point: In the Los Angeles Superior Courts, a case may be called in one of the courtrooms but the judge may decide to order the parties to attempt to settle their differences prior to the case being heard in open court through a settlement conference or mediation. However, in most courthouses, the facilities for such conversations are virtually nonexistent. For example, at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on West Temple Street in downtown Los Angeles, benches in hallways, a vacant jury room, or even a corner table in the cafeteria on the first floor are typical venues for these types of sessions. Although normal security procedures are in effect at the building entrances (e.g., X-ray machines, hand wands, armed L.A. County Sheriff officers, CCTV cameras), courtrooms (e.g., court security officers), and for certain secured areas (e.g., electronic card access, CCTV cameras), officers are not on duty nor are cameras evident in every area where out-of-court meetings may occur. Given that many people who access a courthouse on any given day are angry or disgruntled and possibly have histories of violence, the spilling of court-related proceedings into nonsecure areas of the courthouse may be cause for concern from a security perspective. Yet, funds for expansion in security precautions are often limited and under most budget scenarios, court administrators who oversee facility security must manage this new wrinkle creatively. In an essay of 400-600 words, discuss your ideas for how security in a courthouse or justice center needs to be managed when proceedings are going on not only in courtrooms but also in other areas of the facilities, such as vacant jury rooms, attorney conference rooms, benches in hallways, other meeting rooms, the detention area, and even the cafeteria. Include your thoughts about what your general security goals should be as well as your specific recommendations for addressing these types of situations, especially when limited available funds necessitate a clear prioritization of possible options.
