Elaborate on the importance of the photosynthetic algae zooxanthellae. Why are these algae important to both coral reefs and other inhabitants of the water? Provide at least 3 new ways they help the corals and coral reef ecosystem not already mention
Zooxanthallae are a type of algae that live inside the tissue of coral and other organisms. The coral and algae have a symbiotic relationship - the coral provides the algae with a safe place to live and the compounds they need to do photosynthesis, while the algae supply the coral with the products of photosynthesis, which basically gives them food!
The symbiotic relationship between the algae and the coral also allows for a efficient use of nutrients for the survival of both algae and coral.
I know it's not 3 of them, but that's all I've got.
