Oregon is one of the states that have enacted Death with Dignity Act and in fact it was the
first state to do so in 1997. The statute is quite controversial as it is purposely meant to allow
people who are terminally-ill upon their desire to end their lives. The death is aided with the
physicians’ prescriptions that are set to allow and facilitate self-administration in a voluntary
process of lethal medications. The Death with Dignity Act in Oregon has key specifications, for
instance it requires that the Health Authority collects information about all the physicians and
also the patients who are participating in the Act. An annual statistical report is then published

Under the statute in Oregon, a resident to be competent must be an adult and has been
