If the nurse and the patient has different value beliefs, then it is upon the nurse to set aside his or
her beliefs and values to help the patient. It is the wish for the patient which should be held at the
top no matter nurses’ feelings, unless it is illegal. Promotion of the dignity is among nurse’ core
value.
Give one example of a situation where patient empowerment might pose an ethical dilemma for
you.
An example of rise of ethical dilemma hailing from patient empowerment could be in case the
patient has heart disease and being a nurse, you need to teach the patient on the changes, lifestyle
ones and ways of staying healthy despite the disease. This is trickier when you advise the patient
on complete stoppage of behaviors like smoking, but they refuse since the act keeps them happy
