Healthcare Teams
Slide 2
A good performance from any team requires communication efficiency, especially in healthcare,
where cooperation is critical. Efficient communication ensures that team members are informed of
their responsibilities and can seek help from team members where need be. An example of that is the
shifts between members where some are informed to come in late, which results in their late
reporting to work. Further, lack of engagement from the leadership has greatly contributed to the
failure of the healthcare team. The team members operate with a perception of being undervalued
due to lack of engagement (Carr, 2017). Therefore, they focus on completing the work hours with
minimal productivity. Finally, the healthcare team members are highly demotivated, which explains
the lack of morale to sustain high productivity within the team. Team members are very reluctant to
undertake tasks that are not assigned to them even when they are free and able to fill in.
Slide 3
The performance of a healthcare team is assessed through its results. Similarly, any efforts to establish
a high performing team have to be anchored on a result-oriented mindset. Such results can be
informed of patient, organizational and professional goals (Carr, 2017). Further, accountability is a
critical element for a strongly performing team. Lack of accountability takes away the ownership
feeling of the work done by the team members, which dilutes the team spirit and focus towards
achieving goals and targets. Good leadership in a team empowers the team members towards high
productivity. Good leadership ensures the promotion of the vision and mission of the team, whose
reflections are seen in good team performance.
Slide 4
A good performing team needs to be result oriented, as mentioned before. The most efficient way of
creating a result-oriented team is by establishing attainable goals and targets which every team
member can focus on achieving (Bang, & Midelfart, 2017). One of the goals could be the provision of
high-quality care for every patient. Further, clarity of tasks and roles can help avoid confusions and
conflicts in the workplace, which hinder good performance. A health care team needs effective
communication strategies due to performance issues such as shifts, feedback, and consultation. The
above factors help the healthcare team to perform better through efficiency in communication.
Slide 5
Every term that has been able to perform exemplary well have an element of very good leadership. A
good leader must not be in a managerial position but a person who is able to inspire the team towards
achieving its goals. It would be beneficial to bring in a leader into the healthcare team to improve its
performance (Bang, & Midelfart, 2017). Further, team members need to be committed to
contributing positively to the goals and targets of the team. Free riders in a team lower its level of
performance and productivity, although a good team leader should be able to motivate such members
into the team. Finally, a high performing team can only sustain its high levels of performance if it has
effective conflict resolution strategies. A good team is made up of different people with different
strengths and weaknesses, and therefore conflicts may arise.
Slide 6
The performance of a healthcare team is not entirely dependent on the actions of that team. Some
organizational issues such as regulatory and financial constraints may emerge as a barrier to good

team performance. Some organizational regulations that hinder flexibili...
