How Climate Patterns have changed over the Years and the Impacts of Climate Change on
Cities and the World
Patterns of the Earth’s climate have undergone significant changes since the formation of
the planet. In particular, the past few decades were characterized by dramatic and severe changes
in the Earth’s climate. Climate patterns were somewhat stable over thousands of years up to the
19th century, despite the changes that were taking place. Nonetheless, worldwide, the world’s
temperature rose significantly between the years 1860 and 2012. The rate of warming rose in the
early 1980s, and has continued to increase regardless of the efforts that have been put in place to
mitigate the issue of climate change and its impacts. According to Marcus Arcanjo, a junior
research fellow at Climate Institute, the last decade was reported to be the hottest decade ever
recorded in the history of the world. Most reports on climate change occurred since the preindustrial period. The changes that have continued to take place have been driven by a host of
factors, including but not limited to, changes in the amount of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s
atmosphere, volcanic eruptions, increased use of fossil fuel, and varying configuration of the
oceans and continents. There is no doubt that the world is completely different from what it was
ten years ago. Today, climate change remains one of the most serious threats that the world is
grappling with. Climate change presents a host of challenges to cities and the world at large. In
fact, climate change is one of the most devastating challenges that cities and the world as a whole

are struggling with since it has led to global warming and other observable impacts on the world.
Therefore, this research paper attempts to describe, contextualize, and analyze the issue of
climate change while summarizing and evaluating conversations and debates happening about it
with reference to the harm it causes, why it exists, how it developed, and who is paying attention
or speaking about it.
