Description

In this assignment you will write a 2 page paper cited in APA style that summarizes your experience with taking ten minutes a day as described by Amy Cunningham in the below Ted Talk. You will also keep a chart of your ten minutes a day.

Part 1:
Dr. Charles Figley, Director of the Tulane Traumatology Institute defines compassion fatigue as “a state experienced by those helping people or animals in distress; it is an extreme state of tension and preoccupation with the suffering of those being helped to the degree that it can create a secondary traumatic stress for the helper."

Reflect upon what you do now, if anything, to off-set the effects of compassion fatigue. Remember that compassion fatigue can affect those not yet in their career of choice. If you are not in the helping field yet, think about other ways that compassion fatigue may affect your daily lives, for example parenting or caretaking for an older parent or relative. Watch the Ted talk below and summarize Amy Cunningham’s message. 1 page in length.

Part 2:
Create a chart in which you document taking ten minutes a day to care for yourself as referenced in the Ted talk. Include each day that you “took ten” that week, with the goal being every day. Record when you took the ten minutes and what you did in that frame of time to take care of yourself.

Part 3:
End of the week reflection: what was the experience of taking ten minutes a day like for you? Was it easy or difficult? Why? How did you select the “take 10” activities that you did? Do you feel the practice was beneficial? How so? Will you continue taking this time each day? 1 page in length.

According to the Director of the Tulane Traumatology Institute, Dr. Charles Figley,
fatigue as what the people that offers help to other humans or animals in distress experience. He
says that fatigue may create secondary traumatic stress to the helper due to the extreme state of
tension that the suffering of those helped impact on the helper. Professionals often tend to
believe that they can't be affected by compassion fatigue because they have been doing that work
for a long time, but compassion fatigue could also affect them. In everyday life, there are
