Description
- Describe your understanding of the north / south divide as it relates to the health of populations in developing counties. Determine specific steps — aside from building more clinics — that the leadership in developing countries can take to improve their health care systems and, as a consequence, the health of the population.

Discussion: Circadian Rhythms and Sleep
Despite all of the knowledge that scientists have about the function and process of sleep, it is not known how much sleep humans actually need. Furthermore, people may need more or less sleep at different stages of life. What is clear is that a great number of people report that they do not get enough sleep because once they go to bed, the sleep they seek does not come readily. For this Discussion, you will explore circadian rhythms and consider exogenous and biological factors that influence these rhythms. Looking specifically at sleep, you will describe the brain regions that influence sleep and arousal and discuss the potential functions of sleep.Note: For this Discussion, you are required to complete your initial post before you will be able to view and respond to your colleagues’ postings. Begin by clicking on the Post to Discussion Question link, and then select Create Thread to complete your initial post. Remember, once you click on Submit, you cannot delete or edit your own posts—and cannot post anonymously. Please check your post carefully before clicking on Submit. To prepare:Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider the role of circadian rhythms on the processes in the body, specifically on sleep. As you read, analyze the theories that explain the reasons we sleep and decide which resonates with you most.By Day 3Post a response to the following:Define and describe circadian rhythms and discuss the external zeitgebers and the biological mechanisms that establish and maintain these rhythms in the body.Sleep is one of the most obvious processes influenced by these rhythms. Describe the brain regions and neurotransmitters that bring about arousal and sleepiness in the brain. Finally, speculate about the functions of sleep and describe at least one theory purporting to explain the reason why we sleep.Zero plagiarizing, Quote work, No.com's

Discussion Prompt 1
Coping With Death
In your opinion, is denying one's own impending death a beneficial way of coping? How might it impact development positively and negatively? Provide examples of practices that indicate death acceptance and death avoidance. Support your reasoning with information from the text and other course materials.
Discussion Prompt 2
Coping With Loss
Some people believe that in modern societies, unlike traditional communities, we do not allow enough time and social support for the bereaved to process death and mourn loss. Do you agree or disagree? How do childhood experiences and cultural and social rituals impact the bereavement process? Next, read the following blog post "Supporting Grieving Families: Tips for RNs and Others on the Front Line." Why do you think healthcare providers receive so little training in grief response? Do you think grief support is worthwhile to include as a major part of healthcare training? Explain.

In my opinion, denial of one's death can have both positive and negative affects on older adults. A positive reason why denial can be a good way to approach death is because it can be used to avoid the destructive impact of shock by delaying the necessity of dealing with one's death (Santrock, 2017). When someone is in denial about their death it can protect the individual from having to cope with intense feelings of anger and hurt. Although, denial can have a negative impact on someone who is coping with death. With denial they might think it is not necessary to receive treatment (especially life-saving treatment) when they need it (Santrock, 2017). When someone is in denial they might put off going to get check-ups which might be necessary to keep them alive. That is why denial can be both good, and bad, depending on how the individual acts when they are in denial. Some effects of death can be that they make the person dying more spiritual. In a study it showed that many people who had advance congestive heart failure got more spiritual as they got closer to death (Santrock, 2017). Acceptance is when the dying person develops a sense of peace, an acceptance in his fate, and a desire to be left alone. Death avoidance is when they are doing anything to distract themselves of the feelings they have to face, and deny and isolate theirselves.

I do agree that in modern society we do not allow enough time and social support for people to process death and mourn a loss. In today's society we are given a few days to a week to mourn the death of a close relative and then we are forced to go back into work or school if we don't want to miss out on getting paid or being dropped from a class. Different cultures affect the bereavement process differently, for example in Bali the the bereaved are encouraged to laugh and be joyful (Santrock, 2017). In different cultures they believe they should still keep contact with the spirit of the dead. In western cultures we just have a funeral where we say goodbye to our loved one once and for-all and kind of forget about them, and don't believe that we need to continue bonds with the deceased. All cultures have different grieving practices, and none is greater than the other, but help them in different ways. I think that health care providers aren't really taught in grief response because it is something hard to teach. There is no right answer and it will vary with different cases. Some people grieve in different ways, and have different outlooks regarding death so it hard to teach one precise answer. It is something that will be learned through experience and needs to come from a genuine place, while still being proffesional.

POSC 101 Palomar College Lobbying and Disclosure Act in 1995 Questions
Question 1:Drawing from Bardes (Ch. 7), please describe and explain the functions and goals of lobbyists. Describe the reforms Congress passed in 1995 and 2007 as attempts to limit and regulate their influence.Question 2: Take at the look at the 2020 Democratic National Platform: https://democrats.org/where-we-stand/party-platform/ (Links to an external site.)Look at the following issue planks (there is a table of contents at the beginning of the PDF document link): "Building a stronger, fairer economy" and another issue area/plank of your choice. What is the party's official position/values on each of these two issues? Does this represent the party base and elite's shift to the progressive "Bernie/AOC" wing of the party? Why or why not? Here is the 2016 Republican National Platform (the RNC did not have a 2020 platform): https://prod-cdn-static.gop.com/media/documents/DRAFT_12_FINAL%5B1%5D-ben_1468872234.pdf (Links to an external site.)Look at the "Rebuilding the Economy & Creating Jobs" plank (at the beginning of the "Restoring the American Dream" section of the platform), which includes the GOP policy on trade and taxes. Then look at another issue of your choice (again, the top of the PDF doc has a table of contents) and describe the GOP positions on both issues. Is this a turn to the Trumpist/Nationalist right? Or a preservation of establishment/mainstream conservative GOP principles?

Leadership, Ethics, Culture and Politics
Discussion Question - Managing EmotionsThere are times when you are hurt, defensive, joyous, reserved, controlled, or angry. Acting professionally means controlling your emotions. While outbursts are unwelcome as a way of communicating or expressing yourself, emotions are important indicators of authenticity and can be reflections of the ethical and cultural foundations of an organization. For the first part of your post: Compare two leaders you are familiar with, one who managed emotion well and one who did not manage emotion well. Provide specific examples to support your stance on the emotional management of these leaders. How did their emotional management affect the organization? For the second part of your post, select any one of the following bullet points. Attempt to spread the bullet points out among class members (e.g., not have one bullet point answered by all course participants). Assess how a leader can most effectively manage emotions in the workplace. As a leader, how can one show appropriate emotional self-control or leverage emotions for organizational benefit?Propose a research-supported policy or guideline statement (three or four action items) an organization might adopt concerning emotional expression in the workplace. How would such a policy enhance organizational culture? How would such a policy enhance ethics in the organization? Propose a brief set of coaching points for how leaders should handle a situation where an employee or a customer is extremely emotional to an unprofessional point?Conclude your post with a three or four sentence summary of the most important point, lesson or takeaways from your research and analysis for your initial post. Provide a substantive (500–1,000 words) initial discussion posting. Justify your answers with examples and reasoning. Comment on the initial postings of at least two peers. Your responses to other initial posts must be a 100 to 200 word minimum each.
