Description

  • It is common knowledge that rape and sexual assault investigations provide evidence such as stained or torn clothing, scratches, bruises and cuts used to solve the crime. Determine at least three (3) other forms of evidence associated with a rape or sexual assault. Next, recommend at least one (1) action that the law enforcement could take in order to investigate such a crime.
  • The textbook cites that the four (4) most common types of abuse among children are neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse. Select one (1) out of the four (4) types of abuse among children. Next, determine the key challenges that the investigator may confront while investigating the abuse you selected. Suggest one (1) strategy geared toward mitigating the challenges you determined. Provide a rationale to support your response.

PLEASE RESPOND TO FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

One study found that between 3 and 4 million children have at some time been kicked, beaten or hit with a fist by their parents, and between 900,000 and 1.8 million have been assaulted with a knife or gun. In some tragic instances, the abuse results in death (Orthmann, 2013). Some challenges investigators may face when dealing with physical abuse are the need to protect the child(ren) from further harm and the difficulty of interviewing children. If a teacher reported bruises on a child, it puts a strain on the investigator. They must decide to immediately remove a child or to do more investigation before deciding. In that case, it may be too late. Although there are rules and law in place to protect children, each case is unique and should be handled as such.

Three other forms of rape/sexual assault could be the condition of the child’s home, medical examination, and photographs. Investigators should start reviewing the medical history of the child and the background of the parents or care givers. Investigators should also interview all family members that the child is in contact with.
