  1. A gallon of gasoline (mainly octane) weighs 6.3 pounds (lbs) at room temperature.  Assuming this mass of gasoline is completely combusted, how many pounds of oxygen (O2) are consumed in the process?

C8H18+ 12.5 O2 = 8CO2+ 9 H2O

The mass of C8H18 = 12*8+8*1 =114

The mass of 12.5 O2 = 12.5*16*2 =400

Pounds of oxygen = (6.3/114)* 400 =22.1

Oxygen consumed = 22.1 pounds
