Back in the 8th century, Indians used to cultivate indigenous spices such as cardamom and
turmeric in Babylon's gardens (Freedman, 2020). Besides, spices and herbs have been utilized by
the Indians for an extended period acting as culinary and health antiseptic. Ancient surgeons used
to apply a poultice of sesame to heal wounds. Spices were believed to have health benefits; they
were used as herbal medicines to heal those who suffered from various diseases. Some of the spices
used to enhance digestion and improve saliva flow include cloves and cardamom. Most of these
spices are currently used without knowing their origin and the traditions accompanying their usage.
