44.  Cross multiply:

5(x-1) = 3(x+1)

Distribute:

5x-5 = 3x + 3

Combine like terms

(5-3)x = 3+5

2x = 8

x = 4


45.  7m = 3(m+4)

7m = 3m+12

4m = 12

m = 3


46.  x - 5 =  3(x-3)

x-5 = 3x-9

4 = 2x

x = 2
