Introduction: Summary of the Article
Most of the healthcare systems and physicians in the US are getting advanced with the new
technology by migrating from the use of paper charts to EHRs- electronic health records. The
current EHRs are largely digital remarks of the traditional healthcare systems as many majorities
of the picture being used were captured a long time ago. Digital transformation has affected how
we consume information concerning different products in society. EHRs have affected clinicians
in a way that their engagement in the healthcare industry has been minimized/ limited. Digitization
in the healthcare sector has been one of the current trends in most hospitals. There is the
introduction of a web application that helps in pulling out real-time information from the
healthcare system and several digital resources (Choi, 2018). This was also developed to provide
a good platform on how data for specific clinical reports can be retrieved and analyzed. As a result
of digitizing charts, clinical data has been made legible and easily accessible even in remote areas.
However, the more transformative changes focused on the elimination of the aspect of using
traditional charts in the healthcare sectors.
Patients responded to the digitization aspect in the healthcare sector positively by making
subscriptions on the text reminders. The inpatient teams subscribed to text reminders which could
remind them on time to take medications. Subscriptions reduce the lag time between when the
information is received and when it is utilized. With digital information, patients can be freely
monitored hence making medication services easy. Another change in the subscription services
allows the aspect of filtering the relevant and important information, as it is done when selecting
a newspaper. In healthcare institutions, the success in creating subscription services calls for the
blend between clinical sensibilities and programming skills (Choi, 2018). Advancement in the
healthcare industry can be remarkable through the aspect of being able to obtain and retrieve
clinical data in an effective way. Therefore, with this case study, we can make its implementation
in the real world as much as obtaining information in the business setup is concerned.
Information Products
The first information product from the use of electronic health records. Through EHRs, healthcare
institutions can easily assess records for their information. The second IP as addressed in the article
is a subscription to the text notification programs (Rtwani, 2019). Through programs like this, the
patients can be easily informed concerning medications. The strategic value of the above two
information products is keeping data and availing information to patients in hospitals on time. The
main benefit of using EHRs in hospitals is that a large amount of data is stored safely. the main
challenge for this is financial resources to support its implementation. The main benefit of
subscribing to the text information systems is that time is saved when providing medication
information to patients. The main barrier to implementing information products in an organization
is financial resources. Another challenge is human labor which is comprised of skilled and
knowledgeable personnel.
