Executive Summary
This paper entails an investigation on Information Technology (IT) infrastructure of an
information system of a company within the United Sates. This investigation is carried out and
presented in a manner that evaluates the existing situation, and the likely improvements that can
be undertaken to make the said information system much better. The paper provides detailed
organizational profile of the company. It then goes further to discuss the existing infrastructure in
terms of its main components, which consist of hardware, software, networking, services, and
data management. Strategies for competitive advantage is then presented, followed by various
technologies used to achieve this advantage. It concludes by presenting the best solution that the
company can leverage on to boost its operations.
Organizational Profile
The organization in this study is a small business that deals in the supply of bathroom fittings
with the United Dates. The company supplies its products to both commercial and residential
spread all across the country. As a way of serving walk-in clients and offering personalized
services, the organization operates a walk-in service five major cities in the country. It also has a
wide customer base dispersed over a wide are, which is mainly served through their mail order
delivery services.
The company is organized in such a way that it has its president as the Chief Executive Officer
(CEO). Below the CEO, there are two vice presidents, one in charge of finance and the other one
in charge of human resources. The vice president in charge of finance supervises officers and
accounts and billing. The one in charge of human resource supervises Operations and
Procurement, and Staff Development. Directly below the CEO and the two deputies are the

heads of departments, which comprise of Regional Managers, Merchandising, and Vice
President.
Within each department, there are officers reporting to respective heads. Below the vice
president (general), the product Placement Officers supervise Shipping Officer, who in turn
supervises the Waste Management Officer. Under Merchandising Department, Purchasing
Officer reports to the head of department, and in turn supervises Receiving and Inspection
Officer. At the regional level, customer service officer reports to the head of department. He
supervises store managers, who in turn supervise associates.
Administrative functions are discharged at the head office. On the other hand, operational issues
are mainly handled at the regional level. The company owns a central store, where all goods
procured are received and inspected. After inspection, these goods are allocated to regions based
on demand and status of inventory. The goods are then dispatched to various regions mainly by
road transport. Once at the regional offices, they are again inspected during receipt. They are
then entered into inventory of respective stores, and availed for sale to the customers.
Strategies
In the company mode of operations, there are mainly two strategies used to deliver products to
customers. One of such is by running walk-in stores, where customers can visit in order to get
personalized services (O'brien, & Marakas, 2006). The other one is mail order delivery services,
