1. Introduction
Belarusbank Joint Stock Savings Bank is amongst the top fifty financial institutions in
Europe; the bank headquarters is located in Minsk, Belarus.
2. SAP Implementation
The bank implemented a single system which streamlined and standardized its work
processes and allowed the staff to share customer and business data stored across the institution.
3. Benefits of SAP Implementation
The new streamlined system has the capacity to process almost two million transactions
each day as well as supports its 5000 employees. Additionally, all deposit, payment processes,
and credits were standardized.
4. Top Management Role
The bank also employed IT support experts to plan, execute, operate, as well as support
its state-of-the-art IT infrastructure. Belarusbank’s managers played three significant roles that
include determining suitable opportunities to apply IT, mitigating all related risks, and smoothing
the path for its positive introduction plus adoption.

Introduction
Belarusbank Joint Stock Savings Bank is amongst the top fifty financial institutions in
Europe; the bank headquarters is located in Minsk, Belarus. The bank runs six regional branches,
1812 outlets, and 111 local branches; besides, the bank has assets worth $4 billion and employs
over 24,000 staff. The bank offers its client an extensive variety of banking services and products
inclusive of deposit banking, cash settlements, depository services, foreign exchange and
conversion, and lending. Additionally, the bank started its operations in Soviet era (Reynolds,
2015).
The work processes and legacy systems were largely based on the Soviet Union style of
banking which greater emphasis on tight control as opposed to efficiency. The bank units had
independent accounting, administrative, and reporting processes and systems. The operational
strategy led to inefficiency as well as excessive sophistication. The top management sought to
compete globally; nonetheless, it realized that its banking convoluted systems were a greater
impediment to its growth. Therefore, for the Belarusbank to attain its goals and objectives, it had
to modernize its out-dated work processes and decentralized systems (Reynolds, 2015).
