School support staff are professionals who help teachers to achieve their goals. They
include social workers, nurses, counselors, and psychologists. Support staff must be skilled in
their work. It is because their input is very critical in the delivery of education. For example, a
nurse can assess and offer treatment to sick students to make sure that their education is not
affected. Teachers cannot be effective without the input of support staff. Teachers are trained to
deliver lessons and assess students' academic performance (Dos Santos, 2020). They are not
trained to address external factors that may be affecting the performance of students. Therefore,
school leaders should adopt a collaborative leadership where support staff is allowed to
participate.
