Oranges Between the USA and JapanThe USA and Japan were in negotiations for a period of ten years, (1977 – 1988) over oranges. The Americans had certain goals that they wanted to accomplish in these negotiations. These goals included; exporting of American oranges in the Japanese market, demand that Japan liberalizes its market, and to eliminate the trade barriers in Japan. The Japanese also had their own goals that they wanted to accomplish in the negotiation process. These included; maintaining its positive image outside Japan, avoiding intervention from GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs), and to avoid sanctions from abroad. Initially, the Japanese refused to negotiate right away, and started negotiating only when Americans threatened them that they would take the issue to GATT panel. Using Hofstede’s Model of Cultural Dimensions from our textbook, compare and contrast the cultural differences that might influence both parties. Based on the cultural differences, develop a culturally responsive negotiation strategy for American negotiators to deal with Japanese negotiators. There are three major projects within this course that follow the same storyline. In this first project, fictional clients Daniel B. Butler and Freida C. Butler are reaching out to you by email, asking for your help with their taxes this year. They sent you an email to give you some background information and ask what additional information you will need to complete their tax return. Review the Reading and Resources sections for Modules One through Four for additional resources to help you respond to the critical elements. In this project, you will be emailing the Butlers and professionally explaining and justifying what you need from them in order to accurately do their taxes.

Prior to beginning your assignment, read Chapters 7 and 8 of the textbook, and Creating an ethical workplace (Links to an external site.). For this assignment, you will take on the role of a mid-level organizational manager. In your current job role, you have noticed that the organizational culture is contributing to some unethical decision making by subordinates and peers. You feel strongly that leadership must be not only made aware of the situation but also given appropriate solutions. To communicate with the CEO and shareholders, you must create a memo. In the memo, you will explain the issues, as well as offer appropriate solutions. For help in the format and writing style of a memo use Good example of a persuasive memo. You do not need to use in-text citations in the memo. However, your work should be paraphrased rather than quoted.
