evolution should be taught in science classes and creationism should be taught in
history classes.
In public middle and high schools, evolution should be taught in science classes and
creationism should be taught in history classes. The essence of education should be to advance
the knowledge power of students in terms of various fields so that they can develop a clear
understanding of existing differences and similarities. Both evolution and creationism instigate
curiosity in the mind of every individual so there is a balance in their importance (Edwords,
1981). However, separating the studies would make more sense. Categorizing religion in the
science curriculum would undermine the inquisitive structure of science because religion has its
own context with myriads of subjects. Each category is wide and mixing them would confuse
students and derail academic and social development (Edwords, 1981). There should be a
definite line between sacred and secular information. If there truly is academic freedom, then
educators should teach every area of knowledge, including creationism or religion. Students
should have the free will to explore both scientific and non-scientific theories in order to draw
plausible conclusions. Students should be guided to sort fact from fallacy. This will encourage
constructive debates and all-rounded maturity among students. A well-rounded life requires
debate in all aspects. Nevertheless, teaching religious beliefs requires qualified instructors.
