I think we should be good stewards of the earth, however, there are a lot of people on the earth, so each person is entitled to how they think which means we all believe and think about the things we do on earth. For example, there is a spectrum of people who believe that the earth is everything and we should take care of and on the other end of the spectrum there are people who do not even think twice about their habits and ecological footprints they leave on earth thinking it will take care of itself. I think it is sad because as citizens the environment is the basis of each citizen of every country there is on the earth and we can potentially begin to pollute ourselves because of lacking care about the environment which will then lead to people getting sick and dying faster and faster each day. I think it is worth to find a way to decrease carbon, but I also believe that anything is possible. Reducing the use of carbon and things that produce the most carbon is something we can do so that we can preserve the earth and keep life going longer. There is also a lack of importance shown to animals as well who get it worse end of the environmental change than humans because animals naturally live outside and are accustomed to their environment they are supposed to live in just like we have houses and have normal everyday things within each environment we are expected to have growing up and as we grow older. I am not sure what I would be willing to give up, but if I had to I think that giving up a car is something I would do. I would be forced to walk and I would be reducing carbon for the earth which is a big win for the environment and a win for me because I would be getting a lot of exercise and I can enjoy the fresh clean air while walking. The first thing that came to mind when reading the discussion topic was climate change. What is exactly is climate change? I found two definitions of climate change: the first, climate change refers to significant changes in global temperature, precipitation, wind patterns and other measures of climate that occur over several decades or longer (Climate Change Terms and Definitions); the second, a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels (Climate Change). I believe we are to be good stewards of the earth, as Aaron Armstrong of The Gospel Project writes, “As God’s image bearers in creation, we were intended to act as His representatives. We were designed, in a very real way, to show the world what God is like. So, when God gave us the command to rule over the earth, the expectation was to do so in a way that reflected His character.” I believe that we are to take care of the environment, after all we were only given one. Part of my wife’s job is educating the public about the importance of conservation, more so from an animal perspective, since she does work for Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, but it can also cross over to humans as well. One way we can be good stewards is to take steps to reduce our carbon footprint, there are websites available that can help you determine your families carbon footprint and way that you can reduce it. I did this using The Nature Conservancy website, nature.org, and found that on average we are leaving a carbon footprint of 59 tons on CO2 per year. Moving to more green energy is a way that we can all reduce our carbon footprint; however, this change is not cheap and will take years to achieve. References Armstrong, A. (2013, July 29). Discussion Post - First Response
Hello there. After reading your post, I have to say that I completely agree with everything you
said, and would like to comment on two things.
First of all, it is true that not all human beings believe in the importance of our planet. However,
I don’t think it’s a matter of beliefs here. Either Religious or purely Science-based, it is undeniable
that the Environment is the main reason behind our survival; we’d be nothing without it. Moreover,
destroying it would be the same as shooting ourselves with a bullet in the leg. After all, every harm
we cause to Mother Nature ends up backfiring on us at some point in time, and if not us, then ...
