Expressing area and perimeter algebraically just means "use variables instead of numbers." In this case, we know Area=Length*Width giving us the formula A=lw. Along the same lines, the perimeter is all the sides added together so Perimeter=Length+Length+Width+Width or P=2l+2w=2(l+w).
