Introduction
The Great East Japan Earthquake was a powerful 9.1 undersea earthquake that struck the pacific
coast of Japan in 2011. The earthquake resulted in massive damage, and triggered a tsunami that
among others put the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor out of business by causing a meltdown. The
earthquake was regarded the strongest to have hit Japan, and this was seen in the damage that
was caused to buildings, communications and transport infrastructure. In the immediate
aftermath of the disaster, the country started a rapid process of recovery and getting the country
back on track. The plan that was undertaken, and the lessons that can be learnt thereof are
detailed in this paper (Leelawat, Suppasri, & Imamura, 2015).
