The Problem and Subproblems
a. In the case study about Khalid, the decision-making process is the primary problem
presented. Organizations operate by decisions made by people. Managers can staff, plan,
control, lead, and organize their team by executing decisions. In nearly all legal entry
organizations, the management gives individuals instructions to ensure that the firm has a
carefully-crafted strategy. The strategy helps to assure its overall usefulness of the
organization (Judge et al., 2017). Both the company and workers have the right to hide
and know any given information concerning the organization's well-being. In this case,
Khalid had access to the information about the company's decision to downsize its
workforce, but he could not tell his friend about the layoff because he would be disloyal.
Khalid would face harsh consequences like losing his job suddenly if he risked telling the
staff and his friend. Therefore, before reaching any conclusion and making a decision,
one should about the population that the decision made is going to directly or indirectly
affect and value their value to society.
b. Other problems found in the case study are loyalty, loss of heavy projects, and lack of
funds to pay the workers. In this case, Khaled felt like if he tells his friends, he will be
disloyal to the company, and if Khaled hides from them, he will still be unfaithful to
them. The construction industry was primarily affected by COVID-19 and lost several
projects generating funds for employee's salaries.
The process of decision-making starts when the manager detects the actual problem.
Problem Statement
The accurate statement of the problem affects all the following steps. Every step in the
decision-making process will base on an incorrect starting point if the problem is defined

identifying the problem from its symptoms. Solving a problem is an investigative procedure used
to recognize the possible answers to the present situation. Making decisions is part of problemsolving. Problem-solving is a complex process, and decisions will have to be on the way.
Decision-making is a choice through the use of an individual's decision.
Five “Whys Technique” of Getting to the Root of Decision-Making Process Problem
a. Why: Khaled failed to take the necessary action and tell his friend and the rest of the
workers the truth about the company's final decision to downsize its workforce
b. Why: He was in a situation that telling his friends the truth on staff layoff will make him
disloyal to the company, and at the same time, hiding it from his best friend will make
him untrue to the friend.
c. Khaled finds it challenging to get all facts, especially the time employees would take to
get the latest employment.
d. Why: The workers, Khaled, the company, his boss, the society are the stakeholders
affected. The company and the workers' right to hide and know the truth about the loyalty
and the layoff that the workers and the company expect from Khaled are the major ethical
issues faced by him.
e. Why: The consequences of hiding and talking about the layoff would be, wo...
