The Public Information Officer (PIO) plays a crucial role in incident reporting and public
media relations when incidents occur. One of the major roles played by the PIO is to implement
a rumor control system so that he can respond promptly to media inquiries and public concerns
(Futter, Cion & Overton, 2002). Apart from that, the PIO is supposed to coordinate closely with
the Incident Command Post crew to implement a Media Photo Site that will enable for visual
access of the scene (Sahlin, 2015). The PIO is also supposed to obtain approval from the IC for
media releases, develop materials for use in the media briefings, inquire from the IC if the
incident has any limitations for information release and implement and operate a JIS whenever
