Evolution of the Video Game Industry In Terms Of Competition and Technology
According to Farhoomand, Joshia, & Tsang, 2009, Nintendo started as a playing card
manufacturer back in 1889.Since then, the company has gone a long way but has eventually
grown to be one of the leaders in video game industry by releasing various successful consoles
which includes NES, Super NES, the GameCube and the most recent DS and Wii systems which
are highly innovative.
The Company held Video Game Prowess back in 1985 by releasing the original NES System but
unfortunately by the start of year 2000 it was faced rough competition from the Xbox and the
Sony PlayStation Consoles released by its competitors Microsoft and Sony which dominated the
Video Game market at that time.
In the year 2006, Nintendo started regaining its Video Game Prowess by introducing Wii
System. At the same time the competitors in return released the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the
Sony PlayStation 3 popularly known as the PS3 but however the Wii System found its high niche
by the aid of its disruptive nature where it had the ability to attract people who had no interest in
games thus finding its way into new markets.
