On November 16 2016, My Classmates and I went to Bon Secure Community Works.
Bon Secure Community is a non-profit organization that works to enhance West
Baltimore communities with programs and services that contribute to the long-term
economic and social viability of neighborhoods. Bon Secure is a French phrase
means “good help. Their mission is to give a hand to needy people and guide them
to the right way. Their Vision is to create a humane world by building health and
socializing justice for all people.
The lecture that we attended was with Ms Kim (a volunteer instructor) and we have
benefited a lot from her lecture. It was the last session from this course, so it was a review
for what they had before. The lecture was about how to plan, shop, save, label reading,
and also food pyramid. First, She talked about saving money when food shopping.
Second, We discussed fruits and veggies and its importance. Then, She went over the
grains and advised us to make half of our grains whole. Third, She instructed us how to
build strong bones with calcium and how much do we need each day. Furthermore, she
directed us about storing milk and diary products. Lastly, she aware us from soft drink
and inform us how many teaspoons sugar in each fluid ounce.
In conclusion, it was only one-hour lecture but we learned a lot. For me, I learned when
she said that we cant you deep fry with olive oil. She also prepare a dish for us which was
Skillet Lasagna and gave us a handout
