binomial distributions

Nov 21st, 2014

Binomial distribution arises, when we perform an experiment number of times.

Each conduct is called a trial.

A trial results in success or failure.

The probability of getting a success remains constant irrespective of the trial(p).

Trials are independent.

Then the probability of getting r successes in n trials is nCr pr(1-p)n-r

Probability of getting 3 heads in 5 tosses = 5C3 (1/2)3 (1/2)2 = 5C3 (1/2)5 =10* 1/32 =5/16
