in 2000 there were 7.325 multiple births recorded in the U.S. In 2005, the number of multiple births dropped to 60694. What was the decay factor for multiple births for the 5-year period from 2000 to 2005? What was the percent decrease?

Number of multiple births in 2000 = 73250

Number of multiple births in 2005 = 60694

Let the decay be d

Number of multiple births in 2005 = 73250 *(1-d)5  =60694

(1-d)5 = 60694/73250 =0.8286

1-d = 0.8286 0.2 =0.9631

d = 1-0.9631 = 0.0369

Percent decrease = 3.69

Answer: 3.69%
