Overview of IT Solution and Next Steps for Kelly's Salon

For your Case Study Stage 1 assignment, you performed a Five Forces Analysis and justified Kelly's chosen generic strategy for competitive advantage and the business process that she would like to improve through the application of technology.

For your Stage 2 assignment, you identified the inputs, processing, and outputs of Kelly's selected business process. Those inputs, processing, and outputs form the functional (business) requirements for an IT system to improve the process.

In Stage 3, you identified the IT requirements by evaluating their applicability and importance in a new system to be implemented to improve the identified business process for Kelly's Salon.

Following your analysis of the business environment and the business and IT requirements, Kelly Kostanza has decided to move ahead and implement an IT solution.

Kelly’s Salon Stage 4
IT Solutions and Next Steps

Introduction
The following paper discusses a proposed IT solution and the strategic steps required to
implement and roll out the solution at Kelly’s salon. The proposed solution will heavily borrow
from the previous three stages carried out to address the problems faced by Kelly’s salon. The
focus will be on the business process to be improved that is; Appointment scheduling, supply
ordering, marketing and inventory management. Furthermore, the generic strategy for
competitive advantage will be a requirement based process enablement.
Proposed IT Solution
The vendor I selected for Kelly’s salon was Shedul.com whose system is a salon and spa
booking software. The system provides solutions for hair salons, nail salons, spas, beauty salons
and massage centers. I chose this system because it provides features such as appointment
scheduling, client management, employee management, recurring appointments, payroll and
commissions, and point of sale. These are exactly the problems Kelly’s salon aims to address.
The system can be deployed on web, cloud or Software as a Service (SaaS).The cost also played
a part in the choosing of this system as it is entirely free with no trial periods or limits.
Implementation Steps
The following are the steps Kelly will take to implement the system:

 Vendor agreement
Kelly would need to agree on a one-time starting price of $0.01. She would need only to
create an account and provide the details of her salon such as company name, business

type, country, time zone and currency. After successful creation of the account, her salon
can now enjoy zero limitations, no hidden costs and no trial period. If she wants to make
inquiries about the use of the software, she will email the support staff at
info@shedul.com.

 Hardware and Telecommunications
Kelly would need to purchase Desktop computers according to the size of her employees.
Other hardware required include DVD drives, Windows Operating system, mouse,
keyboards, multimedia terminals, a high-speed receipt p...
