1. Discuss the splanchnic blood flow
Typically, splanchnic circulation encompasses small intestinal, pancreatic, hepatic, gastric, and
splenic circulations. Consequently, they are arranged in parallel and fed by the superior, inferior,
and celiac arteries. The primary determinant of vascular resistance in splanchnic circulation is
the resistance arterioles (Wisén et al., 2018). When a person is at rest, the total blood flow is 10
to 20 percent of the cumulative cardiac output. Moreover, the splanchnic organs extract more
oxygen as the blood flow decreases. Besides, the autoregulatory input into the flow of blood is
minimal under normal circumstances. There are three types of splanchnic blood flow regulations,
including intrinsic autoregulation, autonomic regulation, and lastly, hormonal and humoral
regulation. In intrinsic autoregulation, the gut possesses some mechanism that ensures there is a
stable flow of blood. In autonomic regulation, there is an increased flow of blood to the gut to
enhance digestion. In hormonal and humoral regulation, numerous circulating vasoactive
substances have a significant impact on splanchnic circulation.
2. Discuss bowel obstructions, types, patho, s/s, and treatment
In this condition, there is a complete arrest of contents passage through the small intestines. This
is due to pathology that causes blockage of bowels.
Pathophysiology
Mainly, bowel obstructions occur without the compromise of the vascular. Ingested foods and
fluids, gas, and digestive secretions accumulate above the obstruction. Consequently, the
proximal bowel distends, followed by the collapsing of dist...
