One very important component related to race is culture. Cultural beliefs and customs can have a large influence on health attitudes and behaviors. Cultural competence within organizations and in public health is very important. For many years I had the pleasure of serving as a chairperson leading university multicultural initiatives. During this time I completed anti-racism training through Crossroads, had the opportunity to work with individuals who helped to build Georgetown University Cultural Competence Center, and work with city and local organizations who work to bring awareness and resolution to these issues and work toward dismantling racial disparities.Question to Answer:Please follow the links below to learn more about cultural competency and let me know what your thoughts are. - What professional experience do you have in these areas? - Have organizations that you have been affiliated with had any cultural competence training goals and requirements?
