Need to understand bases, how they work and using them in multiplication and division. I understand about 60% of it but need to examine my knowledge further.

Bases are used in exponents . So you have to know about properties of exponents . They are given below:

1. a^0 = 1 2. a^x a^y = a^x+y 3. a^x/a^y = a ^x-y 4. (a^x) ^y = a ^xy 5. (ab)^x = a^x b^x

6. (a/b)^x = a^x/b^x. 7. a^-x = 1/x

Example of property 2. (2^2) (2^3) = 2 ^ 2+3 = 2^5 = 32

Example of property 2 and 7. (2^2) (2^-3) 2 ^ 2-3 = 2^ -1 =1/2

Example of property 4 (3^2)^3 = 3^2(3) = 3^6 =729

Example of property 7 and 6. (1/3)^-2 = (3/1)^2 = 3^2/1^2 =9

Example of properties 3 and 7: 3^2/3^3 = 3^ 2-3 = 3^-1 = 1/3

Example property 5 : (2^1/2) ( 3^1/2) = [(2) (3)] ^1/2 = 6^1/2 = square root (6)

Above guidelines will help you to understand bases. Practice examples and you will be comfortable working with bases in multiplications and divisions.
