Introduction
Aging has been received differently by different cultures. While some people are not
willing to become old, others embrace the idea of growing old. The main reason for fearing the
process is based on stereotypes. Some of the stereotypes are completely false but some are
actually true. More so, the idea of youth and being young forever really appeals to many people.
The issue of death might scare people in that they think the older you get the higher your chances
of dying. Thus, in order to fully embrace the idea of aging, it is important that individuals learn
to embrace the fact that everyone will die. Like the Japanese, we need to view death, not as a
monster but rather, an opportunity to have eternal peace (Matsumoto, 2009).

Americans have responded in different ways towards the whole idea of aging and the
aged. However, their response has been negative in that most Americans are afraid of becoming
