Description

Topic: Organ donation

An annotated bibliography is a list of references that includes a one-paragraph content summary after each item. You must submit this in MS WORD (.doc or .docx).

Instructions for each of the two parts of this assignment

Part 1: Annotated Bibliography

Include 5 scholarly sources (peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters; I will allow up to two "grey literature" items from reputable sources). Use sources most relevant to your debate. Remember that you have to debate both sides, for and against the proposition statement.

1. Each entry starts with a properly formatted reference (using the APA 7th edition style guide) with a working url link to the full article. If I cannot access the full article, I cannot grade your entry.

2. Open with a brief summary, in your own words, of the article/book chapter.

This is a very descriptive task and an important skill. We will address this in class on Tuesday. Bring your entries to review them for completeness.

To support you, here is an 11-point checklist. Each of your five entries should have sentences addressing each of these points:

  1. The argument
  2. The purpose
  3. The key findings
  4. The contribution of this article to the literature
  5. Methods
  6. Description of the data
  7. Sections (one sentence for each)
  8. Limitations
  9. Type of study: primary or secondary
  10. Intended audience
  11. Value of this item for your debate (you can create a second short paragraph for this point, noting how it helps with your 'pro' and/or 'con' argument)
undefined

See also the Library Guide on Annotated Bibliographies. See also the APA 7th Edition Style Guide Library Guide.

Part 2: Sub-issues (1/2 a page)

After your annotated bibliography, include a list of sub-issues with pro and con arguments. I am expecting this to be a half-page in length. It should be in point-form. A simple way to do this is to create a table listing sub-issues, then the 'pro' argument and 'con' argument for each sub-issue.

Include only scholarly sources: this means peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters. Each entry starts with a properly formatted reference (using the APA 7th style guide) followed by a brief summary, in your own words, of the article. Explain the findings, how the researchers arrived at the results. In an additional few sentences, explain the value of the entry to your debate.

The purpose of the article was to explore the perspectives of families on deceased organ
donation. The argument is that families' refusal to consent to organ donation is one of the main
barriers to having organs donated. The study utilized a systematic review from which there was
the derivation of themes from qualitative studies. The key finding was that families do not
understand death well in donation, which brings about numerous anxieties preventing them from
consenting to organ donation. This study is valuable to the research as it provides insights to
support the argument that socio-cultural factors may be a causative factor of the barriers to organ
donation in families.
