Running head: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The healthcare industry is in need of streamlining some of the specific business
processes. Some of the business processes in the healthcare system in need of streamlining
business processes including the tracing of prescription drugs from the manufacturers to
hospitals and the identification of their product code, expiry and manufactured date, tracing of
contagious diseases among individuals, streamlining business operations within the supply chain,
scanning of the appropriate drugs before providing to hospitals in healthcare facilities with huge
numbers of people, and in location of certain items in hospital settings. For example, locating xray vests within a hospital facility and where other important medical equipment are stored.
One alternative is the use of RFID (Radiofrequency identification) in their daily business
operations. This technology will assist companies in adopting leaner supply chains that will
ultimately improve safety and reduce costs. Some of the current business problems likely to be
solved by the use of the RFID technology include reducing the supply overstock in different
hospitals, tracking and tracing the prescription of new drugs in the hospital system, infection
control, and injection control and in radiology (Wamba, 2012).
RFIDs are based on the use of a small chip that is nearly the same size as that of a grain
that is easily detectable based on its frequencies. These frequencies are readily identified in
different locations of any business setting. The installation of this RFID seems to be one
alternative method in solving some of the long-time problems faced by companies faced by
different players within the health industry or business segment. This method is more likely to
increase save more costs within the company as well as streamlining their business operations.
