Treatment of Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorder refers to the characteristic of diagnosable feelings through fear, stress,
anxiety, and worry (Asher et al., 2017). These feelings are usually strong enough to ruin an
individual’s normal functioning. Some examples of this disorder include post-traumatic stress
disorder, panic attacks, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is easy to spot a person with an
anxiety disorder since these negative feelings are extraordinary. Medication refers to the drugs
administered to help manage the condition if one begins to get these attacks in the middle of an
ordinary day. Psychotherapy is the medical term for dealing with such mental issues. The therapy
helps the patient take control of the situation and manage it to the levels where it is no longer
destructive. Treating anxiety disorders require both pharmaceuticals and therapy. This paper
looks at why medication alone is not the recommended way of dealing with this mental issue.
Comparison between medication and a combination of both psychotherapy and
pharmaceuticals in treating anxiety disorders
The first reason is that medication alone is partial relief and does not work for every
individual with this condition. The chemicals are meant to control the attacks and not solve the
entire problem (Wang et al., 2017). Considering that these disorders' levels differ for every
patient, the same dose of medication will not work for everyone. The recommended way is to
combine the two procedures to supplement one where the other has a deficit. However, it has
been noticed that 80% of the people dealing with these disorders only depend on medication. The
researchers, who have looked into the issue, report that it is due to lack of funds for the therapies
and lack of time to attend the sessions for others. In all the medical reports, medication alone
