the Oman government. The primary focus of this company is to provide electric utilities, electric
power generation, fossil fuel power generation, water utilities, water production and water
desalination to the surrounding areas. One of the most important processes provided by Al
Ghubrah is to provide clean water to communities that do not have fresh water available to them.
Al Ghubrah power and Desalination company is a 100% government owned utility
situated in the Al Ghubrah suburb of Muscat. 99.9% of the shares are owned by "Electric holding
Company" and 0.01% of the shares for the company are held by the ministry of finance. Licenses
for the company are issued by authority if electricity regulation in Oman.
Operations for Al Ghubrah power and Desalination company are governed by the
provision of law for the regulation and privatization of the electricity and related water sector.
The net power capacity for the company is 448 MW and has the ability to produce up to 7,727
M3/hr of water. In addition, Al Ghubrah has a 13 year contract that will allow them to supply all
of the power and water to their surrounding areas, this contract commenced on May 1, 2005.
