Description

The Supreme Court is made up of nine justices who are responsible for deciding whether or not laws are in line with the U.S. Constitution. These individuals serve life-long appointments once they are nominated by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate. Below is a list of some of the most controversial decisions in the last few decades by the Supreme Court. These cases are often mentioned by politicians during campaigns because the issues are still debated, even after the Supreme Court’s ruling.

May it please the Court, the states, not the federal government, has the power to
pass gun control because … If the national government takes control over gun laws, then it
means it will have to control the entire nation and not one state. If one group has control over a
large area some of the decision made by this organ, will be opposed by other groups. This will
lead to my point 'power corrupts the powerful'. But if states are given control over laws
concerning ownership of firearms, then they will make laws which will fit their respective states,
and they will be acceptable. Some may argue that states will have conflicting laws, but the
answer is in our constitution under the National Right-to-Carry Act (H.R. 822) that says all states
are required to honor weapons permits issued by various states. For example, if a gun owner has
a permit to carry guns in a state like Utah which is relaxant on gun ownership laws, then if that
person travels to California which is very strict in gun ownership, California will have no right to
punish that person for violating their laws.
