Ca+2C --> CaC2 deltaH= -62.8kJ

Ca+1/2 O2 ---> CaO delta H= -635.5kJ

CaO+H2O ---> Ca(OH)2 delta H= -653.1kJ

C2H2+5/2 O2 ----> 2CO2 H2O delta H= -1300 kJ

C+O2 ---> CO2 delta H= -393.5kJ

calculate delta H for CaC2+2H2O --> Ca(OH)2+C2H2

Nov 27th, 2014

First you need to figure out know to get the final chemical equation

Equation 3+Equation 2-Equation 1, you will get

CaC2+1/2O2+H2O---->Ca(OH)2+2C        delta H=-653.1+(-635.5)-(-62.8)=-1225.8 kJ

Then the above equation+2xEquation 5-Equation 4, you will get

CaC2+2H2O --> Ca(OH)2+C2H2       delta H=-1225.8+2x(-393.5)-(-1300)=-712.8 kJ
