Running head: FACILITY SELECTION AND RESEARCH Facility Selection and Research HCS446 03/08/2021 Facility Selection and Research 1 2 The Selected Facility and Its Purpose in the Healthcare Industry A clinic is a structured medical or healthcare facility that offers preventive, therapeutic, or diagnostic outpatient services. There are numerous types of clinics. Some of them are independent or stand-alone practices, while others dependent or associated with a university or a hospital. The services offered by each type of clinic can also differ (Dilnawaz et al., 2018). Some offer a wide range of medical services, while others offer specialized care. The main purpose of clinics in the healthcare center is to offer non-emergency medical services that are recurring or preventive. The Populations Who Use the Facility The populations who use the facility vary depending on the kind of clinic. Clinics serve individuals of all ages as long as they can meet their healthcare needs. The populations that seek services from maternal clinics are pregnant women or mothers with infants and toddlers (North et al., 2017). The populations that seek medical services from specialized clinics are men and women of all ages who may have specialized health needs and need to visit clinics of different medical fields, including dentistry, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, podiatry, urology, among others. Key Characteristics of the Facility The main characteristics or features of a clinic entail special designs to accommodate the patient's needs and make them feel comfortable. One of the key features of a clinic is the availability of a waiting room. The waiting room is designed differently depending on the type of clinic. For instance, a maternal clinic's waiting room could have a small area for lactation. The other key characteristic of a clinic is the availability of consultation and examination rooms to accommodate the specialists and several patients or the patients' family members. The other key 3 feature of a clinic is a lab to offer necessary medical testing for the patients (Dilnawaz et al., 2018). An explanation of why I have selected this type of facility The main reason why I have selected a clinic is that clinics are essential in society, especially in remote areas. An individual does not need to travel to hospitals for recurring healthcare checkups or services. I have selected a clinic to have a clear understanding of its design and if it can be improved further to accommodate the patients' needs. References 4 Dilnawaz, F., Acharya, S., & Sahoo, S. K. The impact of federal, state and local legal and regulatory requirements on the selected
facility
The federal, state and local legal and regulatory requirements require clinics to have
structures and equipment that promote the safety of patients, families and staff members of the
clinic. The effective structure of the physical environment of a clinic needs to have adequate
resources that support the caregivers and allow them to offer safe care to patients (Parsia &
Tamyez, 2018).
There are numerous assets and equipment needed for the floor plan of a clinic. Some of
the equipment required include telephones, computers and printers, refrigerator or freezer,
audiometer, specialized lighting, television, wheelchairs, emergency equipment such as
aspirators and airways, stethoscopes and protective equipment such as gloves and aprons among
other assets and equipment.
