WEEK 3 DISCUSSION 3.2: Exploring Music and DanceDiscussion TopicI'm DoneGENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCUSSIONS: Your contributions should be thoughtful and developed. Answer all parts of the question and use concepts from the course materials. Use a professional style of communication, with attention to grammar, spelling, and typos; cite your sources. Rely on class sources, do NOT use outside sources.AVOID the words "In my opinion," "to me," "I think," "I feel" etc. State your ideas and support with information and concepts from class materials!Choose ONE of the following questions, and write an in depth response (2-4 paragraphs for analysis posts, 1 paragraph for composing posts). Then, give a substantive response to at least ONE other student.1. Analyze MusicChoose a piece of music from the excerpts in this week's Intro to Music and analyze it in terms of tempo, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, notation and melody (per class How Music Works videos, Dynamics lecture, and Music Basics Video). How do these technical aspects work together to generate an emotional effect through music? Be sure to read/view all the resources on music in this week's course contents. Apply music terminology (eg. analyze tempo in terminology and/or bpm, assess what you think the dynamics and relate to emotional effect, if rhythm deal with how many beats in a group (measure), what gets the stress and on/off beats, etc).Pick a second piece and identify 2-3 contrasting features. Research the artist/composer and style of your primary piece and use this information to justify why we should study this piece.2. Create MusicCompose your own piece and share a video or audio clip with the class. (You can also elect to submit written music if you read/write music). You do not need to read music for this -- just record yourself. You can sing (no words necessary) or play an instrument. Write a paragraph sharing your influences and explaining how you used rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics and/or melody to create an effect. Alternatively, you can create a Ringshout (see Additional Resources), discuss the experience of learning about the Ringshout and the process of creating it and apply musical concepts from this week's materials. Be sure to include a video.3. Dance!Choreograph a short dance and upload a video for us. (Do not use a received routine or an existing video from before the course). Write a brief paragraph explaining how you use techniques from dance fundamentals & Dance 101, specific dance terms (eg ball change), the body and space, how you use rhythm/tempo, and/or how melody is expressed in your dance. (Not all of these will necessarily carry equal weight in your piece). Explain what style of dance it is. Share any influences on your composition.Or, participate in a style of dance that is new to you. Your local community may offer free or low cost opportunities such as contra dancing or folk dancing. Do some research on this style of dance, discussing its cultural context, as well as your analysis of dance, body, space, rhythm etc. based on your active participation as a dancer. Apply concepts from Dance 101 and Dance Fundamentals. 4. Analyze DanceChoose one of the dance clips from Performance Dance Excerpts in this week's class materials. Relate the performance to critical concepts you have learned about dance (Dance Intro, Dance Fundamentals, Dance 101, etc), visual art (Getty concepts in Week 2) and music (this week). Be sure to address specific dance terms (eg ball change), the body and space, how you use rhythm/tempo, and/or how melody is expressed in your dance. Highlight 2-3 contrasting features of a 2nd piece. Apply concepts from the glossary to movements. Research the artist/choreographer and style and explain a unique contribution this person makes to the arts.Posts ( initial and and at least one response to fellow classmates) are due by Sunday at 11:30PM ET. Posts may not be edited. If changes or additions are desired, do so in a response to your initial post. Discussion locks shortly after due date/time.

SOCW6311 Walden Week 7 Social Work Evaluation & Logic Model
Due 4/11/2019 Respond to at least two colleagues by doing all of the following: (Use 2 APA references) Offer critiques of their logic model as if you were a member of their work groups.Identify strengths of the logic models.Identify potential weaknesses in the assumptions or areas that may require additional information or clarification.Offer substantial information to assist your colleagues’ efforts such as:Information to support their understanding of the problems and needs in this populationSuggestions related to intervention activities, and potential outcomes Response to Chantelle Post a logic model and theory of change for a practitioner-level intervention Practice-Level Logic Model Outline Problem Needs Underlying Causes Intervention Activities Outcomes Low-Income Young Mothers Job Training and/or education -High School Diploma or GED is not complete -High School Diploma/GED is complete however there is a lack of job skills -Provide payment for GED -Provide classes for various job skills/certifications such as CNA, mechanic, etc. Mothers will have better education and/or job skills/certification to better provide for the family. Describe the types of problems, the client needs, and the underlying causes of problems and unmet needs The presenting problem in this scenario is low-income mothers. The client needs would be to increase the income including further education or job skills/training. The causes of this would be a lack of a high school diploma or GED. According to Lee and Oyseman (n.d), 22% of low income single mothers did not have a high school education among the population of their study. Among that same populatoin, 37% had a high school diploma but no additional job training and 41% had education higher than a high school diploma. The participants of the study were asked to answer various questions. One of the questions was pertaining to their future self and where they predicted they would be regarding finances. A large portion of the participants predicted themselves as "making ends meet" and feared loss of property including housing, cars, etc (Lee and Oyseman, n.d). The unmet needs of this population would be that job training programs are limited. Identify the short- and long-term outcomes that you think would represent an improved condition. Then describe interventions that would lead to a change in the presenting conditions. According to Lee and Oyseman (n.d), the goal among the population would be to provide these woman with job skills to further their career and become more financially stable. The short term outcomes would be for the women to attend the program to learn a new set of skills. The long term outcomes would be for the women to become more financially stable with the job skills put to use (Lee and Oyseman, n.d). An intervention that would lead to a change would be the job training program to teach new skill sets. Lee, S. J., & Oyserman, D. (n.d.). Expecting to Work, Fearing Homelessness: The Possible Selves of Low-Income Mothers. JOURNAL OF APPLIED SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY, 39(6), 1334–1355. https://doi-org.ezp.waldenulibrary.org/10.1111/j.1... Response to Erica RE: Discussion - Week 7 Problem Needs Underlying Causes Intervention Activities Outcomes Mothers in domestic violence situations Housing, childcare, support, protection, medical care Lack of education, low income, lack of supports Legal resources, access to medical care with confidentiality, housing assistance, childcare resources, support groups Personal and legal protection, safe housing, safe childcare, supports, appropriate medical care The type of problem here is a mother who is in a domestic violence situation with her child(ren). She fears what to do next. She fears staying, but also fears leaving. When she feels the timing is right to leave, she will need housing, childcare, supports, protection and medical care for her and her children. The underlying causes of these problems and needs are someone who may lack education and knowledge, have low or no income solely on their own and lack enough supports. Without those things, she finds it difficult to make a move in any direction. A needs assessment should be conducted on every person that would come to this program to assist domestic violence victims that includes asking questions about their knowledge of domestic violence and how to address it (Dudley, 2014, p. 127). The outcomes (short and long term) that would represent an improved condition include the family establishing a new, safer environment. Those details may consist of safer things like housing, childcare, medical care, support systems and legal protection. Once the mom feels more comfortable in an environment, some success has been achieved. A program/shelter available to women of domestic violence would address the needs of these individuals and their children. The interventions would consist of case management to assist these mothers in accessing resources that would still keep them safe. These mothers know it can be risky to be involved in community agencies, but if they have security of knowing they will still be protected, they will feel better about accessing them. This includes seeking medical treatment where they can be listed as a confidential patient and nobody can call and get any information about their medical status. Interventions include private shelters and childcare facilities. Educational trainings on safe relationships and parenting would be a beneficial service to these mothers as well. A safety plan for this mother is critical for her in this situation. Assisting with access to medical care, whether it be transportation, phone calls or medical recommendations is another way the case manager at the agency could assist the mom with resources. Guiding the mother to legal agencies that assist domestic violence victims in a way that will protect her and not expose her, is the safest option. They can assist with questions regarding custody of the children. For example, it is possible to get an emergency temporary custody if the child, sibling or parent of the child is at risk for abuse (National Network to End Domestic Violence, Inc., 2019). These things need to be discussed with an attorney who will protect the parents’ location and safety. References Dudley, J. R. (2014). Social work evaluation: Enhancing what we do. (2nd ed.) OPTION #2: ECO-LEADERSHIP IN AN NGO
Discourse as a method to study leadership has proven to be a viable tool. Western (2013) [required reading] suggested that Eco-leadership is a discourse of “new leadership for new time.” You are an organization development and leadership consultant who has been hired to work with the Executive Director (ED) of a global non-governmental organization (NGO) the work of which primarily occurs throughout Africa and Central and South America. English is the most common language used in the NGO.The NGO is part of a larger grouping of corporations, non-profits, and NGO’s working in the area of children’s health. The NGO has long held the belief that distributed leadership is the only way for its programs to reach the intended clients and to survive over time. The ED recently read Western’s (2013) work on Leadership Discourses and is particularly interested in knowing more about Eco-Leadership. You and the ED agree that the two of you will explore the Eco-Leadership concepts within the context of the NGO’s history, current status, and vision before opening up discussions with other NGO and partner leaders. You and the CEO agree that Western’s (2013) four qualities of Eco-Leadership could be an excellent way to advance understanding. The four qualities include:Connectivity and interdependenceSystemic ethicsLeadership spiritOrganizational belonging. (Western 2013, p. 254)You and the ED agree that an explanation of the four qualities and then associating each quality with either an organizational theory or a leadership theory would be a great place to begin the dialogue. You will prepare a consulting report* and executive summary** and discuss it with the ED in 10 days.Requirements:A consulting report consisting of six to eight pages including a one-page executive summary*. Title and references pages are required and are not included in the page count. Cite two (2) real-world examples of NGOs and networksthat might exemplify one or more components of Eco-Leadership.One organization or leadership theory applied to each of the four qualities (for a total of four theories).Format your entire paper according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA.Review the grading rubric, which can be accessed from the Module 5 folder, to understand how you will be graded on this assignment. Reach out to your instructor if you have questions about the assignment.*Resource examples of a consulting report are found in the ORG561 Toolkit 1.0**Resource examples of an executive summary are found in the ORG561 Toolkit 1.0
