Leadership styles describe the leader's characteristic behaviors when motivating,
directing, managing, and guiding individuals or groups of people in an organization
(Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014). Good leadership styles are essential in society because
they help solve various complex problems that people may face within their reach. It also helps
build good team-based relationships among employees, acting as motivation, hence working
hard to attain business goals and objectives. Good leaders can inspire social change in society,
motivating people to be creative and innovative. In this essay, the major leadership styles,
shared, emergent and collaborative leadership, together with their specific characteristics and
how they meet future leadership challenges related to the VUCA world, will be analyzed and
discussed. Later, the differences and similarities between the leadership styles and the
recommendation on the leadership style, which is most suitable for the fast-changing
environment, will be evaluated. Finally, personal views and understanding of how best I can
develop as a leader will be evaluated and discussed.
Shared Leadership
Shared leadership involves sharing power and leadership responsibilities among different
individuals to achieve a successful outcome (Wang, Waldman & Zhang, 2014). Shared
leadership delegates power to the most qualified personnel in the team for better organizational
performance. It helps determine the strengths and weaknesses portrayed by employees in the
organization, thereby providing the most appropriate solutions to such problems and weaknesses.

Shared Leadership Characteristics
Shared leadership is characterized by the availability of horizontal influence among
colleagues. It focuses majorly on the leadership team's influence with the team members during
the entire team leading process (Wang et al. 2014). Besides, shared leadership expresses
leadership as group emergent property. This means that leadership responsibilities are shared
among different individuals in the organization. Therefore, suggestions from all the organization
members are welcomed and considered before a final decision is made. Finally, shared
leadership influences distribution in the team leadership structure. This means that leadership
influence is distributed evenly and equally across all the members of the organization.
How Shared Leadership Meets Future Leadership Challenges Associated with VUCA World
Shared leadership meets future leadership challenges in the aspect that reacts to
complexity with clarity (Aritz, Walker, Cardon & Li, 2017). Shared leaders create a clear
communication path and promote teamwork and collaboration among their team members. This
gives the employees a clear direction as they know what is expected of them, and this helps them
solve various complex problems that they may encounter. Besides, a shared leader's counter
volatility with vision creates a compelling value to its employees. This helps me giving them a
