Please take this time to look at the upcoming due date and at the grading rubric for the paper to think about a topic for this assignment. The grading rubric is available in the NURS 300 Syllabus – Appendix D. It is also provided below at the bottom of this module. b. I’d be glad to talk to students about their topic selections, if that would be helpful. An Ethical Dilemma Paper Assignment Review Session Video is available in this module. Students should review the recording to prepare for this assignment. c. Reminder that students have many APA formatting resources available to them. To name a few: • APA PowerPoint Presentation and resources in NURS 300 Table of Contents • RN to BSN Program Information Center (Course listed in student’s D2L Brightspace Course listings) – go to Materials, Content, and then APA Format Resources • SMSU McFarland Library Research Guides, Nursing Program, Citing in APA Format • Please remember that using programs that have citation shortcuts for students to cut and paste do not assure accurate APA formatting- so please double check them 4) Resources Again, as students create their Ethical Dilemma Paper, they have an opportunity for a draft review of their paper. This is totally optional. If they would like a draft review of their paper, they need to please place the rough draft of their paper in the Ethical Dilemma Paper Draft Assignment Dropbox by the due date on the NURS 300 calendar. Again this is totally optional, but most students who use the draft review resource tend to be more satisfied with the end result of their paper. The student’s paper does not have to be fully developed to be submitted. A rough draft may be submitted. Also, the rough draft of the paper will not be evaluated for APA style or writing quality - as students may connect with the SMSU Writing Center, or Tutor.com, for that. The draft review will give students general guidance for the content of their paper. It is optional for students to request a draft review of their Ethical Dilemma Paper. 5) Again - Upcoming Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment – Opportunity to Collaborate in Teams for this assignment at the end of the semester. I will make note of this again this week. Students will have the option to work alone or collaborate as teams for the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment that will be due Week 14 in NURS 300. Students have started to get to know each other over the past three weeks of NURS 300. They will continue to get to know each other throughout the remainder of NURS 300. If they would like to collaborate together as a team, they may start creating teams. I will give them until the end of Week 8 in NURS 300 to create teams for this upcoming assignment. To learn more about this assignment, and the opportunity to collaborate as teams, please see the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Resource Module provided in the NURS 300 table of contents (between Module 13 and Module 14). Here is information regarding team creation. 1) Create a team of no more than 5 students (2-5 students). 2) Let faculty member know the members of the team prior to the end of Week 8. 3) View the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact Review Video found in the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Resource Module provided in the NURS 300 table of contents (between Module 13 and Module 14). 4) The teams must complete a Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact form and provide the faculty member with this form by the end of Week 8 (for convenience, the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact form and assignment dropbox will be available in the NURS 300 modules each week through Module 8). 5) These teams will not be changed following submission of team members and the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact. 6) Each member of the team will complete a Mustang Nursing Learning Team Evaluation form upon completion and submission of the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment during Week 14. Patients should always be told the truth
1. Initial Two Minute Paper Section
One of the greatest dilemmas as far as the practice of nursing is concerned relates to full
disclosure by a medical professional to a patient. This is because patients always have the
assumption that their healthcare provider cannot be economical with the truth relating to a
diagnosis, test results, treatment options among other things. On the other hand, professionals are
cautious about how they dispense information to patients, especially in circumstances where they
feel like the truth could be difficult to handle on the part of the patient. Decades ago, physicians

Patients place a great deal of trust in their physicians. If this trust is broken, it may cause
serious harm to the patient, with the likelihood of interfering with their response to treatment.
Physicians should appreciate the fact that patients are sick, vulnerable, and full of questions that
require truthful answers. Loss of reputation for honesty in medical practice may lead to patients
looking for alternative means of treatment other than professional medicine. Telling the truth
does not only foster trust and demonstrate respect but also makes patients informed participants
in important healthcare decisions. It is therefore important to disclose all aspects of a patien...
