Abstract
William Shakespeare is remembered for several reasons including his prowess in the writing
and presentation of plays and other literature pieces. His prowess in writing has been a force to
reckon with and many ancient and present day writers have borrowed a leaf from William
Shakespeare. His books and plays were not only an expression of art but they were also intended
to depict the experiences and circumstances in the society. In the many tragedies of Shakespeare,
characters are depicted in a distinct way to express the mood and the intended purpose of the
play.
The conflicts in this plays and tragedies of Shakespeare are also expressed in a way that
leaves the readers curious. The ideas in this play are also expressed in an artistic way that makes
it very interesting for a reader. In the end, these conflicts are resolved and one can connect the
relationship between the characters in these plays and the roles they played in making these plays
a success.
This paper, therefore, seeks to address some of the issues that are expressed in the
tragedies of Shakespeare. The nature of the characters, the conflicts, the ideas and the resolutions
in the play are also expressed in this paper. This paper focuses on the tragedy of Hamlet which
talks about a price of Denmark who returned home to find his father dead and his mother ready
to remarry his father’s killer.
The tragedy of Macbeth also talks of a Scottish King, Macbeth who was driven by
selfish ambition to seize the throne. The tragedy of Othello is a story of love that is driven by
jealousy and depicts betrayal. The tragedy of King Lear depicts betrayal and leadership as well.
