Description

In American historiography, Marxist historians consider the Cold War an attempt by the U.S. to establish economic hegemony, while Revisionist historians blame individual personalities, namely Stalin and Truman. Might there be some other explanation for explaining the Cold War? Do you think the Cold War was inevitable? If so, what were the factors that made the Cold War conflict between the U.S. and the Soviet Union unavoidable?

“The Cold War”
Introduction
The Cold War marked one of the most events that occurred during the 20th century being
secondary to the ending of World War II which occurred in 1945 and extending to the 1990s.
However, the Cold War was termed as a contention between the Russians and the Americans after
the culmination of World War II. Therefore, the era was marked by an extended session of tension
between the communist countries located in Eastern Europe and the western world. The two
superpowers never depicted any signs of war declaration against each other but the fight was
through space race, arms race, and proxy wars. Therefore, after Nazi Germany surrender in 1945
a moment of an uneasy alliance among the Soviet Union, Britain, and Americans began but the
Americans and Britain developed a phobia that the Soviet Union will dominate the Eastern
European countries creating fear among the superpowers 1(LaFeber 2015, 1945-1975). The
occurrence of the Cold War was inevitable because apart from the Americans attempting to create
economic hegemony and the revisionist blaming personalities other causes exist including the race

began due to the Nazi Germany defeat in 1945 but it was not accompanied by the last stage of the

japan atomic bombing in 1945. Therefore, Americans had created atomic weapons under the
Manhattan projects through secretive programs. After the bombing of japan Americans had
commenced an era of applying nuclear arms race and weapons. Therefore, Americans presented
specific nation that possessed nuclear weapons during the commencement of the Cold War making
it difficult for the Soviet Union to challenge the Americans which resulted due to the Soviet Union
engaging in its development of atomic weapons. However, in 1949 Soviet Union tested its first
atomic weapon after development which was termed as “first lighting”. Due to the existence of
nuclear weapons among the two superpowers, an era of tension existed since there was reduced
awareness of when the two nations can engage in a nuclear weapon fight. Also, the trust among
the two nations reduced because both cou...
