Grading criteria for the essay
- Introduction (2.5 points) - You will use the introduction to provide a purpose or thesis statement for this essay.
- Discussion of concept/theory (8 points) – This will be a specific discussion of the concept/theory in which you define key words and specify the assumptions regarding the concept. In other words, you need to write like I know “NOTHING” about the concept. Thus, you should be able to describe the terms and concepts utilizing your own words.
- Application/How you will use (8 points) – You will also need to be specific regarding how you will use this information to improve your leadership. You can discuss how you have specifically already used it or you can discuss the specific steps that you will take to develop this aspect of leadership.
- Conclusion (2.5 points) – You will provide a clear stated conclusion summarizing the main point of your essay.
- Grammar (2 points) - Since you have time to edit this essay, you will be graded on mechanics of grammar including verb tense, sentence structure, etc.
- Logic (2 points) - I have always considered logic to be a separate component of grammar. I expect the essay to have a logical organization.

Concepts of Leadership
Leadership is an important aspect of society. Leadership determines growth and
development of societies. It also shapes personal growth of individuals within the society and
organizations. Successful governments, nations or corporations have all experienced effective
leadership from the individuals tasked with the responsibilities of making crucial decisions that
affect the livelihoods of those that they lead. On the other hands, some nations, governments and
organizations have failed due to lack of effective leadership by those in higher authorities. In the
current job market as well as the political arena, individuals are expected to have various
leadership skills so as to achieve a successful career. There are four various theories that attempt
to define and understand leadership. The four theories of effective leadership include; trait
theory, contingency theory, behavioral theory and full range theory. This paper will discuss the
behavioral concept of leadership as well as the assumptions underpinning this theory. Further,
this paper will also discuss how I would use the concepts of behavioral theory of leadership to
improve my leadership.
Modern trait perspective suggests that people turn out to leaders within multiple
situations and responsibilities. According to this theory, the primary personal leadership
