Description

Create an Annotated Bibliography of professional journal articles, books, and published papers by credible sources which relate to the topics covered thus far in this course. Your Annotated Bibliography should be written in either MLA or APA format. It should include at least two entries covering each of the following topics (at least 10 entries, total):

  • Prenatal Development
  • Physical Growth of Infants through Toddlers
  • Cognitive Development of Infants through Toddlers

Credible sources include experts in the field. Popular publications, un-refereed articles and blogs are NOT acceptable. If you are not familiar with annotated bibliographies, several examples may be found through a simple internet search. Your annotation of each entry should include a paragraph description of the main topic and stance of the entry, and a paragraph stating reasons backing your agreement/disagreement with the topic and theme and any other relevant information. Raising children to become holistically independent, caring, and good members of
society entails a lot of rigorous work for both parents and teachers. Understanding how they
develop from womb and until their formative years can help maximize their potentials as they
develop and grow every day.
Identifying Academic Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles and Books
I usually use Google for researching information, but using databases like PubMed
Central, JSTOR, and Cochrane Library helped me look for journal articles and other sources that
are focused on infant and childhood development. I used keywords like infant development, child
development, social and emotional development of infants and toddlers, and toddlers and
development to come up with peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as books, that I could use in
my research.
Assessing the Credibility and Relevance of Information Sources
To make sure that my research is credible and relevant, I tried my best to make sure to
find sources and journal articles that have been published within the last five years or so. I also
made sure that all the sources were published by respectable and knowledgeable authors in their
respective fields. For other online articles and books, I made sure that they came from websites
that are known for their professional output and experience in child psychology, medicine, and
the like.

Nutritional Gaps and Supplementation in the First 1000 Days. Nutrients, Vol 11(12), p.
2891. https://doi.org/10.3390/nu11122891
In order for infants and toddlers to grow physically, nutrition must be optimized,
especially during the first 1000 days. There are many physiological changes that occur
during pregnancy and after giving birth, and a change in the requirements regarding
nutrient intake is important to optimize development and growth. The authors of the
article believe that experts, such as dietitians, pediatricians, and other needed healthcare
workers should continue to guide mothers in supplementation and choosing the right
kinds of food to ensure that proper growth and development are achieved for themselves
and their infants and toddlers.
This article is helpful because it emphasizes on the importance that gaps in knowledge
should be addressed by healthcare professionals. By...
