Karen will divide her garden into equal parts. She will plant corn 8/12 of the garden. What is the fewest number of parts she can divide her garden into

Dec 3rd, 2014

There are 12 parts to the garden, Karen is planting 8/12ths (or if you reduce 2/3)  with corn.  The fewest number of parts she can divide her garden into is 3 (since the 8 and the 12 can be divided equally by 4 and reduce to 2/3).  The other 1/3 of the garden will not be planted with corn.

Since 2/3 (corn) + 1/3 (not corn) = 3/3 = 1 whole garden.
